Talk/discussion: Goncharenko centre 2025-4-13: 1. The purpose of these meetings, 2. Travelling broadens the mind? 3. Healthy food

Short overview goncharenko-2025-4-13-overview

Post event notes: goncharenko-2025-4-13-post-event

Start ca. 16:30

Hello again,

Today I am first going over the point of these meetings, for you and for me, then I would like to hear your views on what you experienced travelling, and finally Vlad will talk about healthy food which we can then discuss.

Part 1: The purpose of these meetings

The essence: Communication and doing effort is important to improve your life!

These meetings are meant to be interesting for everyone, and Vlad and I agree that meetings with a topic are better. They are useful for:
1) discussions (for me and for attendees)
and
2) give practice listening and speaking.

Vlad and someone else were critical about too deep topics, however I think it is important to be able to deal with things you do not know, and that goes for using another language too: it is not bad that you do not understand all words. In a real situation, your phone may die so you have no access to a translation program, and there may be nobody who speaks your language, what do you do then to communicate? Well, you need to guess, words, and try to explain what you mean using different words, words that you do know. So this mean improvising. Getting exercise in this is very useful.

You can also use these talks to get over inhibitions, from feeling embarrassed to make mistakes for example: That is not important! Just do it! Do not take any criticism that people may give about what you say personally!

My topics are designed to give useful information to make your life better, but it will not work if you do not try. We are not in school, I am not a teacher, I do not get paid to be here, and you are not required to be here. I made some comments in the last 2 meetings about the importance of doing the effort required to get to a goal that you want to reach and the importance of communication. But many people are hesitant to talk, and it is possible that instead of suggesting other topics some people just stay away if they don't think it is an easy topic. You can give input on topics, you can say you don't like certain topics, but if nobody does that then I will think of topics that are interesting to me and that I think should be of interest to you. If you don't like a given topic, fine, but later you may realise that what I said is actually useful. This is often the case everywhere in life.

An example: In my 1st year at university during a mathematics lecture, the lecturer stated about something he told us, that: "it is important but I cannot yet explain why it is important, that becomes clear much later".

The same is true for my talks, I cannot explain everything in detail but what I say is actually very useful in life. Someone mentioned that she worried, asked whether I had children, I said no, but that doesn't mean that I cannot understand her. Imagining yourself in another person's situation is a basic aspect of life that only anti-social persons don't do (they don't want to do it and/or cannot do it), and that autists cannot do. I mentioned such people before and it is useful to know that there are such people and to know how they act. I came across them in dating, in personal interactions, in acquaintances... Actually I found that to understand people, understanding anti-social behaviour is the essential first step.

Back to this woman who asked about my situation: She seemed to be not receptive to trying my method to stop worrying. But worrying is not useful, in any situation, logical thinking shows this, and with my method you can get over it which means you are happier in life and you will make better decisions.

An example: Jesus: turn the other cheek, sermon on the mound: I realised it makes sense but also that I could not put it into practice. I would need a method to change my thinking. But this is easier in the situations that I discussed, and I showed how to change your thinking. It is easier because you deal essentially with just yourself...

So, make suggestions about topics, re-read my texts on my website after the meetings for all the meetings, improve yourself.

Comments, questions?

Part 2: Travelling broadens the mind?

Now travelling and its uses. I will tell my views later.

What are your experiences, views? Did travelling make you change your views about life, about what you want, about preconceptions about other countries, or about your views about Ukraine?

[ TALK: Attendees ]

[ After everyone had given their views, I will tell my views: ] Travelling can be interesting but I was never interested in going on holidays. For me travel only became interesting in Ukraine and the UK. I would like to go see the pyramids in Egypt and ancient monuments in Greece and Italy but that would not be so much "broadening the mind". I think by thinking and communicating especially via the internet, you can get to 'broadening the mind', travelling is not needed...

[ This does not seem to work esp. in the USA, I think because the country is big, and there is a feeling of superiority, 'greatest country in the world', which means an outward look, i.e. anti-social mindset and I categorise the USA as a narcissist. ]

Tea ca. 17:20

Part 3: Healthy food

Healthy food, topic prepared by Vlad.

Topics for future talks/discussions?

Next time perhaps include some short lessons such as words/phrases, and deal with becoming more aware (understanding life better), or about thinking:

  1. Words/phrases:
Example: OK = pronounced like the letters O then K (as for acronyms, such as IBM = pronounced as the letters I then B then M), so as 'okay', and not as a word 'ok'. OKay = fine, all right. I heard people in Ukraine say 'ok' twice...

  2. Becoming more aware:
    Ask yourself about situations:: "Why?":

Example: The police chase people in a car, for example for someone speeding and then not stopping. The people being chased sometimes switch off their lights (headlamps, taillamps) but still use direction indicators, so police see them quite well. Why do they use direction indicators?

  3. Thinking:
    - "If you fall for a scam you deserve it": True or not?
    - "A country gets the government it deserves" (example, the USA with Trump who is crazy): True or not?

End, ca. 18:30
