| [ email | About me | Travelling: Talk/discussion, December 2018, Kharkov: Additional: Why people want to emigrate from NL or Ukraine | ... ] |
In NL the main reason emigrants give for leaving is the rule-mania. You need to apply permits for everything, even a small bridge to walk across from your own land across a ditch. See this picture of my house. The people in the city council had all sorts of issues with how it was placed, they even didn't allow tiles to be put on the grass because "it would set a precedent". What did they mean? This just doesn't make sense! If there is a bridge, there should be tiles to walk on. There can be no precedent other than to walk on tiles where there is a bridge! And that is how it should be!
In Ukraine:
- I expect that some people who want to leave are tired of problems that I heard about with businesses. This is caused by beaurocracy or corruption.
- For other people the possiblity to make more money is a logical reason to leave Ukraine. Life is not easy in Ukraine, though most of the friends I have in Ukraine don't complain and don't feel they have problems. I think it depends on the type of job they do, in a company that does international contract work for example, pay is better.
But leaving is not a general solution. Not everyone can leave Ukraine. There should be changes to improve life for everyone. When the best educated people leave the country, this weakens the country so this would not be my choice, except if I feel there would be no way or just too much work to be able to reach my goals. And my goals are not about money, but about other things, and this is also why I am having this talk.
Related to deciding how to live, and what you may find to be a problem, is a saying that I read long ago, I think it was in computer programming newsgroup. A guy had the following signature:
- A problem is a pessimist's view of a challenge.
This means look differently at the situation, then you can feel positive about what needs to be done, as a possibility to learn more skills, for example.
Note: There are 'self help' books on this topic which are written by people who invariably have not mastered this topic, i.e. they can't properly explain what they mean. Examples: Berthold Gunster: Huh?! (Dutch book) or Eckhart Tolle with "The power of now". More on this perhaps another time.
